About the Irish
Benevolent Society of BC

The Irish Benevolent Society of BC (IBSBC) launched the first Brigid Festival in Vancouver in 2020 and since then the festival has grown from strength to strength.

As a registered non-profit society established in 1994 with the Province of British Columbia, the ISBSC has also been a lifeline for many facing hardship in the Vancouver Irish community. This has been possible through the support of many local individuals and businesses.

The Consulate General of Ireland, Vancouver, and the Irish Emigrant Support Fund have also both made significant contributions to the Irish Benevolent Society of BC.

The inaugural Brigid Festival Vancouver was held at Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre in 2020. Due to the pandemic restrictions, the festival moved online with a week-long program in 2021. This was followed by a second virtual event in 2022 with a number of landmark presentations. Now in its fourth year, Brigid Festival 2023 will be presented in a hybrid format with one virtual event open to participants around the world and three in-person events offered in Vancouver.

Our festival offers a wide range of voices and viewpoints with many inspiring and thought-provoking insights into the goddess and saint known as Brigid. While she represents the creativity of women, we welcome everyone to join us and register for any and all of our sessions.

We would like to acknowledge the following sponsors for their support over the past few years:

  • The Irish Women’s Network

  • IRL Construction

  • The Wolf & Hound

  • The Irish Heather

  • Trans Cold Distribution Ltd.
