Lynsey Thornton

Lynsey Thornton is an angel investor and tech executive. Originally from Dublin, she moved to Vancouver in 2012.

She spent eight years at ecommerce giant Shopify, who she joined as an early employee in 2013. As VP of User Experience, she grew their design team from 10 to over 450 people - the largest in Canada.

Lynsey also spent four years as the first General Manager of Shopify’s core product where she led the direction and teams who built Shopify’s flagship product. In her final year, she became one of the company’s first Regional Managing Directors; responsible for commercial, sales, marketing, support, and PR for the largest region, U.S. West.

Lynsey studied Multimedia Technology in Ballyfermot College of Further Education, before moving to Edinburgh to finish her BSc, followed by an MBA. She got her first big opportunity as part of Paddy Power's early digital team in Dublin, where she worked as a designer, project manager, and researcher.

In 2020, Lynsey co-founded the investment collective Backbone Angels. She is one of ten women who invest in female-led startups, and now spends her time looking for incredibly sharp startup founders who have built a truly great and innovative product.
